About the Journal

The Journal of Communicative English (TJOCE) is an online, peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Department of English Language Education, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Nigeria.

The journal focuses on research in English language and English language education, with particular emphasis on the development of the communicative competence of learners and users of English. TJOCE publishes theoretically grounded, empirically based, and pedagogically significant research addressing the teaching, learning, assessment, and use of English, particularly in educational contexts.

The journal welcomes high-quality research on English language competence, pedagogy, language skills, proficiency, assessment, communication, teacher education, curriculum development, instructional materials, educational technologies, and other areas that contribute to effective communication in English.

Conceptually, TJOCE particularly welcomes research in English language and English language education that thematizes communicative competence and advances understanding of how English is taught, learned, assessed, and used in diverse educational and communicative contexts.

Manuscripts are accepted throughout the year. The journal publishes four issues annually, in March, June, September, and December.

All published articles are assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and are made available through Open Access, ensuring broad accessibility and visibility to researchers, academics, educators, and other users of scholarly literature worldwide.

The journal is indexed and/or discoverable through major academic platforms and scholarly databases, including Google Scholar, OpenAIRE, Zenodo, ScienceGate, Crossref, Academia.edu, and PKP.
