Effects of iSpring Suite e-Learning Tool on Performance and Retention in Trigonometry among Senior Secondary School Students in Gusau Metropolis, Zamfara State, Nigeria

This study examined the effects of iSpring Suite e-learning tool on Performance and Retention in Trigonometry among Senior Secondary School Students’ in Gusau Metropolis. The study guided by two research objectives which were transformed into research questions and corresponding null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study examined some literature that was related to the study. The study employed non randomized, pretest, posttest, post- posttest, quasi-experimental design. The population of the study covered seventy (70) senior secondary schools and fourty thousand eight hundred and thirty nine (40839) students in Gusau Metropolis. The study employed the use of Purposive sampling techniques, because of insecurity and availability of ICT facilities. Four (4) Schools were selected comprising two (Male) and two (Female) with total sample of 289 students. The instrument used for the study was Trigonometry Performance and Retention Test (TPRT). The validity of the instrument was subjected to face, construct and content validities. Test –retest method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient (PPMCC) and the reliability coefficient of 0.96 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. Findings of the study revealed that there was a significant difference between performance of students in experimental group taught trigonometry using iSpring Suite e-learning tool and control group taught trigonometry using Conventional Method also there was no statistically significant difference between post-test performance and the post-post-test retention of students taught trigonometry using the iSpring Suite e-learning tool. In conclusion the iSpring Suite is significantly more effective than the conventional teaching method for enhancing students’ immediate cognitive performance. It was therefore recommended among others that Curriculum developers should encourage the integration of iSpring Suite with learner-centered instructional strategies such as guided problem-solving and collaborative activities to further improve students’ attitudes toward trigonometry.
