This study explores the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on the dissemination and credibility of political news in Benue State as the region approaches the 2027 election. Anchored on the Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) Theory, the research aims to examine the extent of AI utilization in political news dissemination during this period, assess its impact on the perceived credibility and trustworthiness of information among voters, and evaluate how AI-enabled political news influences voter perception, engagement, and decision-making. The methodology involves in-depth interviews with 12 participants, providing qualitative insights into the dynamics of AI-driven political communication and its impact on information credibility. The findings reveal varying levels of AI adoption and its significant effects on voter trust and political engagement, highlighting both opportunities and risks. The study concludes that while AI can enhance the reach and personalization of political messages, it also poses challenges to information credibility and public trust. Based on these insights, strategic recommendations are proposed to maximize AI’s benefits such as promoting transparency, media literacy, and ethical AI use while minimizing potential risks like misinformation and bias, thereby fostering a more trustworthy political information environment during elections in Benue State.
