This study examines the growing phenomenon of influencer marketing within the practice of public relations. As digital platforms continue to reshape how organisations communicate with their publics, influencer marketing has emerged as a powerful tool for enhancing brand visibility, credibility, and audience engagement. Drawing on qualitative and secondary research methods, this paper explores how public relations practitioners are integrating influencer marketing into strategic communication campaigns, the theoretical foundations that explain its persuasive power, the challenges inherent in managing influencer relationships, the regulatory environment surrounding disclosure, and the ethical implications of such collaborations. The paper also presents a series of case illustrations drawn from global and African markets, including examples from the Nigerian creator economy, to demonstrate how influencer marketing operates in practice across different institutional contexts. The findings suggest that while influencer marketing offers significant opportunities for public relations practice, it also demands transparency, clear role definition, and robust measurement frameworks. Recommendations are offered for practitioners seeking to leverage influencers as part of a holistic communications strategy, alongside suggestions for future scholarship in this rapidly evolving field.
